I took some time last week to join the 7DRL. Like last year i had an idea for a very small idea that i wanted to try.
This time i wanted to make an Imbroglio/Threes-like. Both games have very string core designs, Threes shift-swipe movement of units and Imbroglios tile based static weapon approach. The core idea i had was “What if the enemies can pick up the same weapons as you?”. In addition to that i’m a big fan of games that don’t rely on AI (even if it’s super simple) where all interaction comes from user input or the system it self. This is why i decided to take the Threes idea of shifting all units not only the player. In combination with the idea that each weapon is strong/weak against another (we implemented only 3 in the end) i think the game turned out quite well gameplay wise. There are a few interesting decisions each turn and the game can become quite thinky fast.
This time i couldn’t stop the awesome Mexer to join the jam and needless to say this is why the game looks pretty fantastic even after 5 days.
You can check out the game here: King of Nothing (WebGL).
